God Speaks to All of Us

  • by

Our community members are the heartbeat of Grace Klein Community. Without volunteer leadership, we would miss so many cool ideas and opportunities to share God’s love around Birmingham.

Margaret Wilson gave us ideas on how to use stale bagels. She used chocolate chip bagels to make a bagel bread pudding for her neighbor. Then, with the whole wheat bagels she made bagel chips, picked up some spinach dip and delivered that yumminess to her local fire station.

Another member, Angela Warren, made cake bits for Teacher’s Appreciation week with rescued doughnuts.

In her own words:
“I took the chocolate cake doughnuts that had frosting on them. Crumbled up and formed into balls. Chilled overnight (or you can chill for an hour or 2.) Melted Wilton candy wafers and dipped balls in. Chill. Melt chocolate chips and pipe on the top. Not my best work, but they look pretty good and taste great! I’m trying blueberry with lemon coating next! I’ll crumble the blueberry cake doughnuts and add 1/3 can cream cheese frosting. Form into balls and dip.”

Another member, Diana Martin works at UAB Highlands, but was not on shift when the tragic shooting of several employees occurred. She rallied the community, in our Acts 4:32 group, to come together with encouraging notes and goodie trays for each area – the OR, Pre-op/Post-op, PACU, Central Sterile, and SDS Management and Administration. Because the Grace Klein Community family always works together, read in her words what God did…

“I just want y’all to know that you all and Grace Klein Community are pretty much FAMOUS around UAB HIGHLANDS!!! It took 15 minutes just to unload and distribute all the goods! Everyone was so touched by the notes and everyone has been thanking ME a thousand times and I keep telling them it’s Y’ALL! It really felt like a loaves and fishes moment, we had SO MUCH that I had to share with the other floors in the hospital! I brought it to nurses stations on 4th and 5th floor! God is so good and I can’t thank you enough!”

UAB Highlands sent the thank you note below to all of Grace Klein Community.

We thank God for every community member and how you hear from God and invite everyone to come along with you on the idea He places on your heart. Together we are loving Birmingham better every day as we follow the lead of one another.
