God Speaks to All of Us

Our community members are the heartbeat of Grace Klein Community. Without volunteer leadership, we would miss so many cool ideas and opportunities to share God’s love around Birmingham. Margaret Wilson gave us ideas on how to use stale bagels. She used chocolate chip bagels to make a bagel bread pudding for her neighbor. Then, with the whole wheat bagels she made bagel chips, picked up some spinach dip and delivered…Keep Reading

He Kept His Promise

“You know how in the book of Esther, none of God’s beautiful names are mentioned? Nope. Not one single name, not Yahweh, not Abba, not Lord and not Father. But if you know Esther’s story, you know God’s grace, mercy, sovereignty and providence are sewn throughout the story of Esther. Mordechai just happen to overhear a conversation. Vashti refusing to appear at the king’s banquet and Esther was chosen to…Keep Reading

Obedience is Love

A longstanding community friend, Allyson Sutton, reached out to Grace Klein Community after reading our monthly newsletter and here’s what she said… “I have something to run by you… And this is not set in stone but just an idea that the Lord laid on my heart this morning. Grant (her son and baseball player at Oak Mountain High School) is selling Boston butts for baseball and we have to…Keep Reading

Confessions of a Volunteer

“When I close my eyes I see this dreamscape as a field of marbled color like a burst kaleidoscope with children playing amongst a sea of dandelions and honey suckle, no one is hungry, no one is cold, no one is lonely, no one is sad. Love is a verb and people live in unison like music from a symphony, all in soothing peaceful rhythm and harmony.” This is what…Keep Reading

I Cared Enough 2017

On November 21, 2017, Daniel Cason Ministries hosted their 12th annual “I Cared Enough” Thanksgiving week meal and food distribution at Fair Park Arena. Come one, come all, everyone was welcomed. Warmth, a hot meal, non-perishable food items, clothing, encouragement and prayer blessed the hearts of many. Approximately 5,000 people were loved on during the event. Briarwood Presbyterian Church, Mountain Brook Community Church and Liberty Church contributed food gathered through donations…Keep Reading

The Rotary Club of Vestavia Hills said “YES!”

If you’ve been to our office recently, you’ve probably noticed we’re out of space. Food is replenished as soon as it leaves. A commercial freezer was donated last month, but it is in loaned storage as we have nowhere to put it. Piles of clothes are everywhere because the donation room is overflowing. We started a building expansion initiative called 50K50Days and together we’ve raised over $10,000 so far. If…Keep Reading

To God be the Glory – Great Things He has Done

For the past five years Grace Klein Community members have had the honor of building relationship with the *Smith Family, a loyal mama and her sweet girls. The Varvoutis Family met *Sarah, Jane (16) and Kristen (10) approximately five years ago, through the monthly food delivery ministry of Grace Klein Community. At the time these two families lives intersected, Sarah, a single mom, was without work. Her girls have always…Keep Reading

No Wonder It’s Called Community

In August of 2016, The Community Foundation of Greater Birmingham gifted Grace Klein Community with an amazing grant, allowing us to purchase a box truck. The box truck opened many new opportunities, including our ability to receive more rescued food. After an accident at the end of May 2017 community truly realized how hard it is to operate without the use of the box truck. How did we manage the load before?…Keep Reading

Jack’s Gives Back

Refrigerator and freezer space at the Grace Klein Community office has always been a challenge. We have dreamed of having a walk in cooler/freezer, but could never have imagined how God would bring a long chain of events and relationships together to provide one for us. On Monday, July 17th, a team of volunteers traveled to Fort Payne, AL to pick up a walk in refrigerator/freezer donated from a Jack’s…Keep Reading

From Trash to Treasure

A community member sent us these beautiful pictures of her garden in an email titled “Morning Eye Candy.” What a treat to see how God has used rescued everything to create such beauty and usability.  Also, what a great reminder to all of us of how He Himself welcomes us in our mess, much of what we would consider trash, rescues us and turns us into something beautiful. “This is…Keep Reading

Who doesn’t love a big juicy burger after a long day of work? Well, except you vegetarians, but they have veggie burgers too! We always love when Mugshots, Inverness Corners gives back to us for our Family Fun Nights where we eat dinner with a restaurant full of old and new friends. Mugshots contributed $200 towards the local ministry efforts of Grace Klein Community. Who knew Interlinc Mortgage would surprise…Keep Reading
