Fresh and Green

“The righteous will flourish like a palm tree, they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon; planted in the house of the Lord, they will flourish in the courts of our God. They will still bear fruit in old age, they will stay fresh and green, proclaiming, “The Lord is upright; he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.” – Psalm 92:12-15 On February 5, 2019, Natalie Spronk…Keep Reading

Oatmeal Box Story

“In January, we were so excited to have Bethany come to Christ City Church to tell about the ministry of Grace Klein Community. Previous to her coming, Meredith Phillips and I sat down at GKC to discuss a tangible way to help with the monthly food box distribution. Bethany mentioned that oatmeal would be a huge help and that at the time, they would need around 288 boxes.  When Bethany…Keep Reading

Food and MORE Food + Coats

When you wake up every day and remember your organization is feeding 10,000+ people every month, you pray about food. And you pray A LOT. The prayers consist of… Who can be a food donor? Please God send funds. Inspire groups to collect food. Fill our box truck with food. Send volunteers. We need more helping hands. Who do YOU want us to ask to host a food drive? God…Keep Reading

Chili For Jesus

The Offenders Alumni Association (OAA) hosted a chili dinner on December 14, 2018, for the ladies of the Birmingham Work Release Program. The chili fed 290 women and was a simple conduit to love and care for the hearts of the women. Grace Klein Community and the OAA work in partnership with one another to care for offenders and to lend a helping hand as offenders reacclimatize to society. For…Keep Reading

“Ask and it will be given to you.”

“Blessed are the merciful, or they shall obtain mercy.” – Matthew 5:7 Lord have mercy, not again!!! An early morning exclamation heard a few days before Thanksgiving that resonated through the basement after the discovery that one of our largest refrigerators had once again gone out. An unfortunate occurrence in the food business, but one that can be detrimental, even deadly to the food rescue business. Food that is already compromised,…Keep Reading

God Speaks to All of Us

Our community members are the heartbeat of Grace Klein Community. Without volunteer leadership, we would miss so many cool ideas and opportunities to share God’s love around Birmingham. Margaret Wilson gave us ideas on how to use stale bagels. She used chocolate chip bagels to make a bagel bread pudding for her neighbor. Then, with the whole wheat bagels she made bagel chips, picked up some spinach dip and delivered…Keep Reading

He Kept His Promise

“You know how in the book of Esther, none of God’s beautiful names are mentioned? Nope. Not one single name, not Yahweh, not Abba, not Lord and not Father. But if you know Esther’s story, you know God’s grace, mercy, sovereignty and providence are sewn throughout the story of Esther. Mordechai just happen to overhear a conversation. Vashti refusing to appear at the king’s banquet and Esther was chosen to…Keep Reading

Obedience is Love

A longstanding community friend, Allyson Sutton, reached out to Grace Klein Community after reading our monthly newsletter and here’s what she said… “I have something to run by you… And this is not set in stone but just an idea that the Lord laid on my heart this morning. Grant (her son and baseball player at Oak Mountain High School) is selling Boston butts for baseball and we have to…Keep Reading

Confessions of a Volunteer

“When I close my eyes I see this dreamscape as a field of marbled color like a burst kaleidoscope with children playing amongst a sea of dandelions and honey suckle, no one is hungry, no one is cold, no one is lonely, no one is sad. Love is a verb and people live in unison like music from a symphony, all in soothing peaceful rhythm and harmony.” This is what…Keep Reading
