Creative Craftsman

Who can fit a deep freezer into the back of a mini van? Or make coasters out of coffee sacks? Celebrate a community wedding for someone you have never met before? Or invite almost strangers to come crash with his family at the beach? Who makes therapy equipment to stretch resources or hauls cases of pears to another state to help preserve? What about someone who rescues desserts for food boxes when the company manufacturing them is about to toss them? Or calls to check on you and see how you are doing – never mind his son is fighting brain cancer?

Terry Moon is a Creative Craftsman, not only in occupation, making all things leather, which btw you can support from our BeMoreRandom store, but in his ability to love people. He will drive in the middle of the night, after a full day’s work, to come see friends. He never thinks his problems are bigger than yours because he understands we all have pain and sorrow and difficulty AND we need each other. He loves to hear you laugh, to meet the next Grace Klein Community friend and to tell you another amazing God story.

Creative people are all over the place, forgetting their coffee cup here or there, lost in an amazing idea, full of excitement, solution finders, always up for the next challenge and operating from a belief system that anything is possible. They often create and inspire with materials that others would consider trash because they see past what is to what could be.

Sometimes creative people can drive non-creative people crazy because it feels like they collect everything when in reality they are energized and inspired by the purpose they see in everything. Rules are suggestions. Terry colors outside the lines to help the rest of us see the beautiful. When it seems that he has a thousand things on his mind, he probably does.

Grace Klein Community requires hundreds of creative people because we are always in some project, beyond our capacity, where we need the creative to explain the solutions we cannot see. The creative teach us about recycling, repurposing, sharing and how to resource what we need to care for hundreds of people with very little or no money. The more we work together, the better we are!

Terry lives in Atlanta, GA, with his wife Denise, and his son Evan Moon. Many of you know community member Evan Moon as we have all rallied around him for almost a year as he has battled cancer. But, many of you do not know his daddy, who is also a treasure of our community. If he has met you, he asks about you. If you like cars, he would love for you to come over and hang out. He will share whatever he has with any of us, knowing he may have found, ten years ago, exactly what you need today. He is more than delighted to live on rescued food knowing that God is providing in creative ways to meet the needs of his family. He is vulnerable and honest, never seeming to be embarrassed by his weaknesses, but almost confident in his imperfections as a realization of his humanity and need for Jesus.

To the master splinter removing, sewing machine operating, coffee drinking, errand running, space maximizing, leftover eating, adventurer… keep showing us what we cannot see, sharing the ideas that run through your head, and believing anything is possible. We make a mighty fine family.
