Missions Fundraiser Yard Sale – July 25, 2015

KristinKristin Hosey, a Grace Klein Community member, has such compassion for the hearts and lives of people all over the world. She has previously served in Kenya and Ecuador, and will soon be embarking on a journey to Southeast Asia, as well as China.

“Ever since I started truly living my life for Christ, I have felt like Christmas isn’t what it should be. I love having family around, spending time together, playing games, watching movies and laughing etc. But that isn’t what Christmas is about. I loved shopping for my friends, picking out the perfect gift for each personality, and wondering about what they picked out for me. But that isn’t what Christmas is about either. I was so fed up with myself for getting wrapped up in the idea that Christmas is about family, friends, and food, and forgetting that the only reason we have Christmas is because of Jesus. While we’re hunting down the best deals to get as many gifts as possible, Jesus already laid down his life to give us the best gift – Himself. In our society it’s so easy to forget.

About three years ago I started trying to engage my family in little service projects around the holidays, just to try to shift our focus on what is important. Unfortunately, because of all the stress around the holidays, it never came together. (My mom and I served together in Ecuador last month so God definitely hears my prayers and He allowed me to serve with my mom.  It just so happened to not be during Christmas.) I dreamed of a Christmas where I would serve people, love people, and share the true meaning of Christmas with people.  Serving without my family was not what I had in mind, but I felt God calling me to something different this Christmas.  Then I discovered the Christmas in China opportunity. Christmas in China is a two week trip through the International Mission Board that takes a group to share the true meaning of Christmas with people who have never heard it before. What could be more perfect?! I found the earliest date that they would be accepting applications for 2015 and wrote it in my planner. Last week I completed my application and yesterday I heard of my acceptance! Praise the Lord for answered prayers!

The three trips within the Christmas in China program that sounded most like what the Lord impressed on my heart years ago are as follows: a mixture of English teaching, ministering to orphans, and fellowship with lepers; spending two weeks in remote villages sharing the gospel with people who have never heard of Jesus; or evangelism in a large city. In the next few days I will find out which specific trip the Lord has for me! I’m so excited to see His plan!

The cost of the trip will be $2,000. After seeing God provide for several other mission trips, I am trusting in the Lord for His provision! My heart is excited to watch Him provide for this specific trip, because I will be in Southeast Asia for four months before I leave for China. I have a month to raise the remaining funds. Please pray I will experience more of God through this process and that I will wait patiently for Him.”
