Have you ever wondered just how much change is lying around your house? I know I have! Sometimes I’ll find it between the couch cushions, lying on the table with my keys, or in the dryer after I accidentally leave it in my pocket when I wash my clothes. Sometimes I even find a few pennies, dimes, and quarters on the floor of my car, or just lying on the street to be picked up by a random passerby. Some people I know even store their change, putting it in a jar or in the car cubby hole. So much change accumulated, left lying around, or forgotten… Have you ever imagined what a difference that change could make?
One sweet couple saw their leftover quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, and decided to use it to make a change for the better through partnering with Kwathu Ministries. The husband travels for work, and collects loose change and puts it in his car cubbyhole. After a little while, they empty that cubby into a change jar. Last month, they donated their change to Grace Klein Community for school supplies for Kwathu Ministries. The total came out to $79, going a long way towards providing school supplies for the children at Kwathu Children’s Home. Their loose change gave orphaned and vulnerable children resources they need to succeed academically, giving those children the opportunity for a happy, productive, and successful life!
Now, imagine how many children we could bless if each of us collected our loose change in a jar for three months (March, April, and May) and contributed to the school supplies of the Kwathu children? If enough of us come together, collect our loose change, and ask our neighbors for their loose change, we could supply every child at Kwathu Children’s Home with the school supplies they need! Instead of those pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters being lost or forgotten, they can transform the lives of vulnerable children, helping them to succeed academically, which will give them opportunity to lead joyful lives, giving back to their community and contributing to society.
So our challenge is simple:
Step 1: Find a jar lying around your house, and start by collecting change around your house. Quarters, dimes, nickels, and even pennies will all be accepted! If you’re feeling generous, even dollar bills will help, everything will help greatly!
Step 2: Take that jar to your neighbors’ houses, go door-to-door asking if they have any change they could spare to help provide school supplies for the Kwathu children. E-mail email@example.com, and we can provide you flyers about Kwathu Ministries to help you share with your neighbors what this challenge is all about. Take any of the change they give you and put it in the jar, as well.
Step 3: After three months of collecting (March, April, May), bring the change jar to the Grace Klein Community office (2652 Old Rocky Ridge Rd Birmingham, AL 35216), and mark it for “Kwathu Change Jar Challenge.” Do you live too far away to stop by that address? Have a coin rolling party! Deposit the change and write a check for the amount you collected to “Grace Klein Community” designating it to “Kwathu Children’s Home” in the memo line and send it to: Grace Klein Community, 1678 Montgomery Hwy #104, Birmingham, AL 35216
Together our change can “change” the lives of the Kwathu children! If you have any questions, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
