Going on Thirty

Cheers to the one who makes the spicy crackers and homemade salsa for camping week, the one who donates the decorative tiles for our BeMoreRandom shop, and the one who helps manage quality control for the monthly food delivery boxes. Always willing to tackle random, she’s worked registration tables at events such as Birdies for Charity, Community Nights and the Djembe Drum Circle, supported Family Fun Nights at places like Pie Five, Moe’s and Taziki’s and hosted ladies gatherings and missionary dinners in her own home. She’s a top recruiter for motivating friends to share their excess, engage in serving and share their gifts and abilities.

Zonia 2Can you hear that giggle? It’s Zonia Waltman, serving up Mexican food, cleaning the dishes and washing/folding/sorting bags of the Mercedes clothing discards. She gives willingly, not begrudgingly. She’s not “too good” to help set up or clean up, to take the behind-the-scenes work or to make time to come support almost every gathering. She’s a mama to the crew, listening to yammering, sharing her yummy recipes and demonstrating by action how to work for the Lord. She’s in her sixties, going on thirty.

Every month, she comes with the Early Seekers to prep the food boxes. They put together over 200 boxes of food every month, retired ladies who have not retired from serving Jesus. Get inspired! They put in the toiletry items, juices, canned goods, the magazines families donate, the pasta, the peanut butter, cereal, you get the idea. Moving and grooving and pushing the boxes down the ramp and out the door.

Zonia 3When she helps her mother downsize, she brings a load of donations to share with other families in need, or when she cleans out her shoes or the extra set of dishes she no longer needs, we can expect some new boxes at the Give and Take Room. She’s always willing to share, not having always had excess, it makes sense to her to care for the people whose today isn’t so easy. If a single mom needs a hand up or a family is starting over from a fire loss, she will send something special for their new beginning. Maybe a cute trash can, a decorative shower curtain or a lamp, she knows the little things make a house feel like a home.

Notice how she invests in various members of Grace Klein Community, joking around with one of the guys, asking how their sick family member is doing, sending leftovers to feed everyone at Monday Night Prayer Night, and bringing her homemade bug spray to give some relief to others at our annual camping week. Zonia notices what we miss, the table cloth needed for the event, the batteries for the electronic toy that’s for sale at the fundraiser yard sale, the change for the money box, and the extra ice we need for drinks.

Zonia 1For Zonia serving isn’t specific to gifts, abilities or interests. She’s got heart; a love for God and people that motivates action. The tasks or the type of serving are not driven by her preferences. She loves because He first loved us. If sharing Jesus is about washing sweaty clothing, she’s in. if sharing Jesus is sharing scripture, she’s in. If sharing Jesus is noticing something little that could make a huge difference, she’s in. She loves Jesus and we are all better for it.
