Hungry Lion

Hungry LionOnce again our children have been enjoying a 3 week school holiday and quite a number of activities were lined up for them. The children’s school performance for the previous term was inspiring! As a way of encouraging them to continue working hard the best children were taken to hungry for chicken and chips and second best for ice cream, of which the children really enjoyed. In addition the children are getting ready for the third term and school starts on 1st September, 2014. We wish them all the very best for the term!

Old Age home“The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.” Proverbs 11-25. The children visited the Livingstone Maramba old age home and during their visit they presented some lovely handmade cards, sang 2 songs and blessed them with a 10kg bag of rice and 2 litres cooking oil. The old people were so happy to see the children and they also took time to share words of wisdom with the children. We also toured the home and  we had the privilege of talking to one of the oldest men in the home who is 102 years old. We later on toured Maramba market, one of Livingstone’s oldest market.

Jeanette's parentsIn addition, we have been so blessed at Kwathu Children’s Home and the Phiri family. Both parents to Mrs. Jeanette Phiri from Germany are visiting Kwathu, their grandchildren and enjoying some tourism, especially that Livingstone is a tourist city. They will be leaving next month on the 5th of September. We wish them a lovely stay in Livingstone.

DSCN0226The children also had so much fun at the famous Victoria falls. The older children had a privilege of reaching the boiling pot situated at the bottom of the Victoria falls and crossing the knife bridge whereas the younger ones only crossed the knife bridge. It was such a wonderful experience for the parents to Mrs. Jeanette Phiri as it was their first time to visit the site.

IMG_1087The 24th of August was a special day for the Kwathu family. We celebrated Mrs. Jeanette Phiri’s birthday at their home. It was so special in such a way that both parents to Mrs. Jeanette Phiri from Germany were also part of the celebration. The event was characterized of a braai and nice yummy food, to mention only a few. Children from Kwathu and close friends to the Phiri family, both local and international,l were part of the celebration. Moreover we sang happy birthday to her and one of the little girls invited who was also celebrating her 4th birthday .We all had a wonderful and joyous time.

DSCI3422dsci3285During this month we had 2 ladies from Netherlands; Noel and Daphne who blessed the children with assorted items, we also had another blessing from our 2 German volunteers, Lea and Marcel. Green valley farm, which is based in Livingstone, has faithfully continued to support Kwathu Children’s Home with a variety of vegetables on a weekly basis. We are so grateful for the continued growing support from both the local and international community in caring for our dear children.

DSCI3266All through the month of August, we’ve had 2 volunteers from Netherlands, Noel and Daphne, who were with Kwathu for 4 days. We also have Nusly an American volunteer who will be working with Kwathu for 3 weeks as well as another 2 volunteers from Germany, Lea and Marcel who will be working with Kwathu for 6 weeks.

Throughout their stay  the volunteers spent, and will still be spending, some quality time with the children doing some recreational activities such as painting, crafting, coloring, drawings and football.

IMG_1118During this month not much work has been done at the building site, especially on the main building. The bathroom and the toilet have successfully been completed in the small house, and the fitting of the floor tiles is still in process. They are likely to be done by next month. The slab for the veranda outside of the small house has also recently been completed.

On the main building the focus has been on electrical wiring and fitting electrical switches. Landscaping is also in progress. Most of these work stages will be completed next month.

IMG_1111In addition, as way of ensuring sustainability of our project, the garden project which is mainly managed by one of our staff members, Allan, has been progressing and we trust that it will continue to expand. Some of the crops includes vegetables, potatoes, tomatoes, bananas and Onions.

Finally, one of our goals for next month is to have the 3 phase power upgrade connected, which is a commercial electric package which consist of a higher voltage which will enable us to use electricity for all the buildings at the property. This whole process will cost us about K5000 which is equivalent to $800.

All this progress has been made possible by the financial support of Hope Builders, Grace Klein Community and Tandeka.e.v, Ausburg Germany.

Please continue praying with us on these requests:

  • Funding for a 10 to 16 seater Bus (preferably Diesel) that would help us transport our children to and from school, as well as for the use of administration purposes. At present, some of our children are walking about 10km to and from school.
  • Pray with us for financial support for the remaining stages on the house (Plumbing, flooring, painting, the ceiling and the doors)
  • Continue praying for courage, faith and understanding that we can accomplish the goals we set for Kwathu and that the children can live, grow and mature in Gods daily goodness and loving kindness.

We thank you all for your continued love and support towards Kwathu Children’s Home and may the Lord continue to bless you!

We thank all our friends and partners for your prayers, donation and support of any kind to Kwathu.
