“Koinonia” is the best single word we have found to describe the way of life we promote at Grace Klein Community. Koinonia is an Anglicized form of the Greek word, κοινωνία, which describes the ideal state of fellowship and unity that should exist within the Christian church, the Body of Christ. The meaning of koinonia includes the concepts conveyed in English words such as community, communion, joint participation, collection, sharing and intimacy. However, the word has such a multitude of meanings that no single English word is adequate to express its depth and richness. Those who have studied the word find there is always an implication of action included in its meaning.
Community isn’t just an area where you live, community is the heartbeat of people living in fellowship with one another that expands over oceans, socioeconomic classes and education levels. Community is not feel-good words, it is action. We celebrate the diversity of our volunteers… they come from different churches, different backgrounds, different countries all over the world. But, they all share a common goal to show people that they are deeply valued and that we all have something to give.
So, join us as we strive to turn “community” into a word of action.
