12 Stones

  • by

In Joshua 3:5 Joshua said to the people: “Consecrate yourselves, for tomorrow the Lord will do wonders among you.”

And then they gather 12 stones for the 12 tribes of Israel, and they believe God before they know IF they will all get across the Jordan.

In Joshua 4:9 Joshua stacks the stones in the midst of the Jordan, in the place where the feet of the priests bearing the ark of the covenant had stood; and those stones are there to this day.

The people pass over in haste. I guess we would too, trusting for God to hold up the water on each side as they get to the other side.

Over 40,000 people passed over and the ground stayed dry.

And when the soles of the priests feet were lifted up on dry ground, the waters of the Jordan returned to their place and they overflowed all its banks, as before.

And then jumping to Joshua 4:21-24

And Joshua said to the people of Israel, “When your children ask their fathers in times to come, ‘What do these stones mean?’ Then you shall let your children know, Israel passed over this Jordan on dry ground. Jenny

For the Lord your God dried up the waters of the Jordan for you until you passed over, as the Lord your God did to the Red Sea, which he dried up for us until we passed over, SO THAT all the peoples of the earth may know that the hand of the Lord is mighty, that you may fear the Lord your God forever.”

We have a Jordan to walk through on this project, the vastness of this project will not overtake us or engulf us, but we will walk through on dry land.

You never know, it could be 40,000 of us too.

And before we even know how God will do it, we will remember and rejoice because He alone will get us to the other side.

Let’s remember 12 stones of the Lord’s faithfulness to Grace Klein Community…

In Oct 2009 we fed 58 families.

In 2010 we raised our very first funds – $14,534 for the entire year

We were 100% volunteer driven for 5 years

In 2013 we hired our first employee

In 2014 we acquired our first community home

In 2017 we had 8 food donors

In 2020 we grew OVERNIGHT from feeding 10,000 people a month to 10,000 people a week and we began a food drive through at Liberty Church Birmingham and began our partnership with Restored Sight and Royal Divinity Ministries and Hope Mountain Church.

2021 we piloted a food rescue app

2022 we acquired our 4th community home

In 2023, we joined hands with Morgan UMC for our FeedBHM Hub and our Community Outreach Hall

In 2024, we received food from 423 food donors and distributed to 617,316 unique individuals through 320 food distribution partners and 6 drive thru locations. 247 interns served with us. YALL!! 78 schools, 171 churches, 257 non-profits and 372 business partners invested in us.

And the 12th stone… Dec 2024, God entrusted a 2.4 million dollar project in Pelham, AL alongside our friends from Pathways.

And every time we stacked a stone, I loved more, I held on more closely to Jesus, I learned how to lay down my life, I lost my preferences, I tasted contentment, and I found the abundant life Jesus promised if we would live our lives with Him.

We are about to walk across “our Jordan” and I hope you are going to choose to walk it with us. You are invited.

People of God, when your children ask their fathers in years to come, what do these stones mean? You will let your children know… we passed over this Jordan on dry ground. And Alabama was not the same because of how we saw God move in those days in the hearts of His people, in our neighbors and in our communities, and  in God’s supply of every need according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. So THAT all the peoples of the earth will know the hand of the Lord is mighty.
