Roxanne Blount is one of our committed community volunteers. She serves as an admin for our Acts 4:32 group, making sure to accept new members that are added, watching for any inappropriate content that she removes immediately and gently reminding members to only use the group as a space for sharing. She also serves at the office during the week when she can come. She helps unload the truck and sort donated food. Each month, on food delivery Saturday, she helps prepare the boxes for delivery early that Saturday morning and also delivers a route herself. She never asks, she gives. Recently, another community member realized Roxanne was in pain and asked her to go to our partner, The Foundry, to see if they could give an estimation for dental repairs. The Foundry has helped several other community members and is a great way for us to partner as community outreach ministries.
We asked Roxanne to share a testimonial with us and she courageously shares below in a very transparent way…
“I have always had medical insurance, but rarely dental. I would go to the dentist as I could. But after years of putting kids and family needs first, my dental care got neglected. I have several broken teeth, cavities, missing important chewing molars, and inflamed gums. My whole mouth hurts everyday. I have 3 teeth that are broken, one is cutting my tongue and another is cutting my lip. I cannot eat many foods I love because of my teeth. I have to let salads get to room temperature before I can eat them. I cannot hardly drink anything out of a straw because it causes that tooth to cut my lip. The dentist at The Foundry has quoted me almost $6,000 to fix my dental problems. The repairs will include several crowns, a few implants, and they may have to add bone to build up my jaw to hold the implants. All dental work is due to long standing periodontal problems. My broken tooth in the front has changed my life the most. It is embarrassing to me to even smile anymore because it shows. I have applied for disability, but haven’t gotten it yet. My husband works, but with 2 kids in high school we barely get by.” – Roxanne Blount
