“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” – 1 Timothy 4:12
“In such a political time in our lives, it is easy to get bogged down in the latest bureaucratic, unjust news stories. In times like this, it is nice to remember that children are our future, and our GKC Girl Scouts Troop 698 are certainly making the future seem bright. The efforts, of not just the kids, but also their doting mamas, they amassed an incredible amount of work in just the few hours they were there!
Thanks to Grace Klein Community’s main produce donor, our office received a literal truck load of nectarines. The all female posse diligently sorted, cut, and preserved hundreds of nectarines for our community members!
Getting elbow deep in fruit, that is a mixed bag of fresh and not-so-fresh, is certainly not a job for anyone with a weak constitution, but these girls refused to hold back! Sure, some of them got a little carried away sticking their fingers in the mushy spots, but that’s par for the course anytime you let a kid play with her food. All-in-all, a couple-hundred families will have access to nectarines as the fall months roll in, all thanks to these sweet girls and their moms! Most all of the girls were able to leave with a bag of fresh donuts, and all the moms left with some flowers, either for themselves, or for loved ones. One girl even said she was going to share her donuts with her teacher. Now, I am not an educator, but I feel like that will go over way better than an apple, any day.
One of the highlights of the day was near the end of the day. Most of the duos had left, and only one Mom and daughter remained. They refused to leave until all the chores were done, even after being told they did not have to finish every task they had started. This mother lead an incredible example for her little scout by exemplifying hard work and follow-through.”
“Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” – Proverbs 31:25-31
