2009-10 Introduction

October 2009

Dear Friends,

Today you are receiving a food box from Jesus Christ our Lord. James 1:17a says “every good and perfect gift is from above.” It is my desire and the desire of many volunteers to follow Christ’s example so that no one will be without food in Birmingham, AL. So, here is a little of my story, the provisions God has made for my family and the vision God has placed on my heart to provide for the needs of others.

I expect you are like me, a person giving life your best, with love and hopes and dreams. Over the last three years, God has shown me that He will provide. I have learned that I am not in control, but He is. His ways are so much better than my ways. I work every day like many of you, and so does my husband, but we are in a place where we are to serve and trust God for His provisions. Sometimes even when we work with all our heart, life throws us curve balls, and we do not have enough. I have realized true faith is when my dependence is in Christ alone. I remember wondering what we were going to eat later in the week and a friend bringing over homemade bread. I remember looking in our pantry, seeing enough for a few more days, and another friend giving us four bags of food. We had not told either of these families we needed groceries…God told them and they obeyed. Now, I know He is going to provide and I want to be a part of how He provides for you and your family.

Within 24 hours from when God placed each of you on my heart, the vision to share the love of Christ through providing food to families was confirmed by three other women. We believe God wants us to work with an established ministry, Angel Food Ministries, which provides boxes of food for $30 that feed a family of four for a week. We request friends purchase boxes of food from Angel Food Ministries, volunteers agree to help distribute the food and God leads us to you. Because of God’s great love for you and for us, we share this free gift. You may ask why? We recognize that everything comes from God and we give knowing we are giving what belongs to God in the first place. Galatians 6:1a calls us to carry each other’s burdens, so praise the Lord with us that someone was obedient to Christ to purchase a box of food for you in Jesus’ name. Jesus loves us, He wants to know us. If you do not know Jesus, I pray this food box serves as your introduction. Remember that we are never alone; God is with us and wants to be our everything. I am joyful that you are with us on this journey. God is faithful and He is doing it…
