HOME UPDATE

BIRTHDAYS – Theresa celebrated her 9th birthday on the 12th of June and she received a gift in monetary form from her sponsors and we threw a birthday party for her.  Nelia also celebrated her 11th birthday on the 24th of June, and she had a mini birthday party. Also, Linto turned 15 on the 25th of June and he got a gift voucher of monetary form. The birthday girls and boys where grateful for turning a year older.

SCHOOLS- All children reported to school in full spirit. Linto started extra lessons to improve on his grades. Unfortunately, school was disrupted mid-term due to Covid19. The closure is for 21 days pending further notification from the state. We have put together a timetable that matched that of their school learning in order for them to study and catch with their schoolwork. Others like Charity are receiving assignments from school via online learning. Our toddlers are being taught by Eustus and Sofia, as well as the mamas.

EXTRA ACTIVITY- Gardening is going on well, although some of the smaller kids have stopped participating because the weather is cold now. Other than playtime, we have introduced aerobics for all the kids and walks for the toddlers and mamas.

CAMPING EXPERIENCE- It was a wonderful experience when the bigger boys and girls took time out to help out at the farm. They were in the company of three senior staff. The boys and girls showed a lot of maturity in the way they conducted themselves and they were able to perform their tasks with minimal supervision. For us this is a great joy because it shows us that they are growing knowing what to do and how to be responsible.

DONATIONS- This month, we were so privileged to have received bags of maize and assorted items that were needed. We are so thankful for those who have continued to think of Kwathu even during such times.

KWATHU SCHOOL REPORT- In the period under review, school was going on well under the new normal. The grades continued learning with minimal challenges. Under the new normal the children are supposed to wear face masks, but some children are not able to come with facemasks every day. This proved to be a challenge as some children were sent back home to get facemasks.

CAREER DAY- What do you want to do when you grow up? This question is usually posed to children many times. Kwathu School had our first ever career day this year. Different speakers were invited to give motivational talks to the children so that they can be encouraged to work hard in order to become what they want to be in life. The children were also able to show case their cultural dances.

We are in the winter season which has seen a spike in Covid 19 cases, which prompted the government to close all schools on the 17th of June for 21 days. After this period, the situation will be reviewed, and direction will be given. We are hoping that the situation will get better, and schools will reopen.

CHICKEN HOUSE PROJECT- In our quest to be raise some resources from within, we embarked on this ambitious project of constructing a chicken house so that we can start raring chickens both for consumption and for sale in the local community. So far, we have managed to put a door frame, and windows made of chicken wire.
