Guatemala Trip Reflections – December 2015

  • by

In December 2015, Grace Klein Community sent a team to Guatemala to serve alongside one of our global ministry partners, Impacto Ministries. Read the reflections below from one of the team members, Holly Deemer.

“Dear friends and family,

There’s just no way to adequately thank you for your support of our trip to Guatemala. Without your sacrificial giving, we simply would not be able to go. I always come home convinced that I received more of a blessing than I gave. Serving in Guatemala is like a spiritual reset button for me.

We spent the week serving hungry children, loving elderly widows, supporting poor pastors, sharing the gospel at every opportunity, and celebrating the birth of our Savior. I experience the love of Jesus in a deeper way each time. I’m in awe of God’s glory as the distractions of home life fade into the background. I’m keenly aware of God’s provision as we are stripped of the comfort and resources of home. I experience God’s compassionate heart for orphans and widows and grieve for the lost who don’t yet know Jesus as their Lord and Savior. In essence, my heart breaks for what breaks His and I’m left cherishing Him more deeply and loving Him more truly.

My prayer is that the impact Guatemala has on my heart will translate into long-term change in my life and my family. I come home grateful for all I have and eager to serve Him every way I can. I’m asking God to guard me against slipping back into complacency or discontentment. He is worthy of all I have and is more than enough to satisfy my deepest longings.
So I thank you on behalf of children, mothers, widows and pastors who were fed, served and loved because of your generosity and I thank you quite personally as one who had the privilege and joy to go and be blessed. May you and your family have a Merry Christmas!”
