We Love You Frazzled Mama

  • by

NMSPGrace Klein Community wants to love on the frazzled. We thought about the mamas out there stressed to know how to clothe their kids for the next season and how they could afford it without having to use their limited time to consign. On September 9-10, 2016, along with our amazing partners at Liberty Church Birmingham, we were able to host a clothing trade for mamas. The participation fee was $25 and mamas could trade as many items as they brought with no trading limit. If they did not want to deal with bringing items to trade, they could pay $25 for every 20 items they selected.

Some mamas did not easily understand the concept as it is structured much differently to the format of consignment shopping. Volunteers kept pitching the idea and as mamas understood the concept they started getting so excited. Then, they came and experienced the trade, with its free pampering, food and childcare and they were ecstatic.

What’s so funny is the famous quote when everyone was checking out was “I feel like I’m stealing!” The deals and inventory were so amazing that the mamas could not believe it. Many asked, “Have you done this for years and we’ve missed it?” and “please tell me you will do this again next year.” So many others shared how they had not had a massage ever or in many years and they loved all the areas of the pampering with free products, free treats and hand scrubs. Others expressed how the childcare allowed them the opportunity to participate.

Thanks to community, we spent $0 for the No More Safety Pins event. Liberty Church Birmingham provided a fabulous space, Veal Convention Services, Inc. loaned 48 clothing racks, The Swanky Stork, Fireflies and Fairytales, and Purpose Place Thrift Market donated clothing, Liberty Church Birmingham Youth gave of their time to clean racks and sort clothing, and 38 volunteers served at the event. Our pampering was provided, free of charge, by Julie Ezelle Davis with Beautycounter, Nichole Franks Marlowe with Young Living Essential Oils, Shara Gladden, Mary Kay Sr. Sales Director, Jinni Turner Dempsey with Mary Kay, Caryl Green with Yeager’s Inc. Hair Studio & Spa and Carla Maguire with Birmingham Family Massage. Thanks to many local businesses, over 50 door prizes were distributed throughout the event.

$1,955 was raised to help feed families in Birmingham. 164 pairs of shoes were donated to a shoe drive for a Grace Klein Community adoption family fundraiser. 3 boxes of books were sold to 2nd and Charles and those credits will be used to buy books for our global partners. 11 boxes of baby items were donated to partner ministry BigHouse Foundation that cares for foster families. 1 box of stuffed animals was donated to a local fire station to provide a cuddle for children in crisis. 71 boxes of clothing and toys were shared with ministry partner Purpose Place Thrift Market who employs and empowers those with special needs and abilities. 17 boxes of hangers were donated to local dry cleaners and 6 boxes of hangers were donated to Kohl’s. Mamas loved on, friendships made, laughter shared… priceless.

Is there a way to express how amazing Jesus is?!!

Check out some of the testimonials from mamas who attended…

“When I went to the No More Safety Pins event, I had been planning my son Isaac’s 2nd birthday party (fire truck theme) and had wanted a couple fire truck toys to decorate with at the party, but didn’t feel like I needed to spend money on that. I went into the toy room at the sale and found the cutest wooden fire truck toy to use at his party! On the way home, tears filled my eyes as I was overwhelmed with thankfulness. The Father used this to remind me how much he cares about the little things in my life. Such a sweet reminder of His faithfulness!” – Jordan Harrison

“Thank you so much for the opportunity to participate in this event. It seemed to be a huge success for those who attended! I met lots of super nice ladies and hope to be able to participate with this event again, as well as others! – Shara Gladden

“This was a fantastic event and one that I would participate in regularly if the opportunity presents itself again. It was very much a blessing to my family as I was able to outfit my two kiddos for the majority of the upcoming cooler weather. It’s a very unique concept that makes a lot of sense.” – Lindsay Glass
