Hey Suga’

Have you ever shared a car for an extended period of time? If so, you’ve found yourself “stranded” in one place while waiting for the person using the car to return. Often that waiting can leave you frustrated, lonely or isolated, maybe even mad at times. Shannon Trammell may have felt all these things, one time or another, but her prevailing attitude seems to say she doesn’t believe she’s “stranded,” she believes she is free.

Shannon Trammell uses her freedom to be at home for the day, to serve others with her cooking skills, her texting encouragement, phone calls, and inviting friends over to share her space. She is mama of the Grace Klein Community house, nurturing everyone that lives there, keeping the space clean and the fridge full of delicious cuisine, all while sharing a listening ear and a beautiful smile.

Recently, she decided to begin hosting intentional ladies gatherings every other week at the community house. She prays over that time, ready to serve those woman with all her heart, eager to be a friend and to share of her own highs and lows. Sometimes she incorporates serving activities into the brunch and sometimes the focus is … come be, come rest. She has hosted three of these lovely gatherings and plans to keep opening the door for more.

The thing about Shannon is she opens her heart to complete strangers, inviting anyone to come be her friend. As Shannon would say, “Hey Suga’ – you are welcome at my table.” Come watch her create food masterpieces and giggle at her antics. She wants to hear how you are, not your schedule, how you really are. And in that “stranded” she is teaching us how Jesus turns everything upside down and helps us realize we are not stranded. We are free.

Free to follow Jesus. Free to trust. Free to love. Free to listen. Free to serve. Free to give her life away to the betterment of our community. Isn’t it beautiful how Jesus shows us that what we think is an inconvenience or frustration may be our greatest treasure. Shannon being home, while her husband is at work, may be the greatest gift Jesus ever gave her and all of us.

“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.” – Galatians 5:1
