Well, it’s been a bit since we’ve provided an update on our friend Evan Moon. In case you are out of the loop….
Evan is 32 years old and had emergency brain surgery in May due to an unexpected tumor. The doctors were not able to get all of the tumor due to its placement amongst arteries and the brain itself. He’s facing a year long battle of intense radiation and chemotherapy. He is an active member of Grace Klein Community and served daily with us. For now, he is living with his folks in Atlanta, GA, to be close to Emory Hospital for treatment plus the speech and physical therapy he needs. Currently his entire left side does not work, and he is left-handed. He is also not yet able to read these posts, books or long texts due to re-training of the brain that is needed for processing information. He spends his days battling a cancer diagnosis. Evan is super optimistic and thankful for his parents who are caring for him around the clock.
Evan shares:

He beams with rays of sunshine,
He gives us produce to eat,
Tilled with wisdom in our brains.”
We are blowing through the Emergency Assistance Funds that many of you have given to help with his financial needs during this time. Your giving has helped with therapy exercise equipment, fuel to and from the doctors, co-pays, keeping his insurance monthly premium current, food, modifications to his parents home for him to easily take a shower and live in the sunroom, etc. All your contributions go towards his needs and reduce the weight of financial stress from Evan and his family. Memo: Evan Moon Assistance Program
Evan has an MRI scheduled for August 15, 2016, to begin an evaluation plan for his chemotherapy. Please be praying for his body to be strong and ready for the effects of the new treatment.
Evan and his family visited Birmingham, AL, last weekend for the first time since the tumor was discovered. Imagine the bittersweetness of stopping by his home for some t-shirts he needs, seeing his car sitting under the carport, and not being able to stay in his own place.
The Birmingham visit was a surprise, but a few friends were able to grill out burgers with Evan, share prayer together, and give him some good ole’ occupational therapy with competitive games of Jenga. Of course there was lots of laughter, Gayle’s famous broccoli salad, hours of watching the Olympics, and Vincent’s “homemade” ice cream. Anytime Evan is able to make a trip to Birmingham, other Grace Klein Community friends will be invited so that everyone that misses Evan will eventually share some treasured time with Evan.
From the Moon family:
“Evan is two weeks past radiation and so happy to no longer have those crazy hours of medicine/preparation. He is grateful though to the doctors and medical staff that have blessed him with the latest technology to treat his condition.
He made it to Florida! One of the things he had on his “to do” list. He was able to visit his aunt and uncle, walk in the ocean, and view sunrises and sunsets over the water. We were blessed with someone doing necessary maintenance on our van, someone provided funds for Evan to choose whatever he wanted to do, and Grace Klein Community met us there with food and friendship. They even helped Evan to and from the water. It was amazing to see God provide for every need.
When Evan was preparing to leave Florida, he mentioned to his uncle that he liked his shirt.
“I told him, “I like that shirt” and he said, ” it’s a little tight on me so maybe it would fit you fine.”
I told him, “you should give it to me” and so he went back in the room and then gave it to me.
So I put the shirt on and took the picture because I knew it was awesome. “Sometimes family takes the shirt off their backs.” That kind of saying is true about my aunt and uncle, and so many other friends and family, who have gone over and above to help us.”
As Evan recovers from radiation his speech continues to improve. He grows stronger and walking has improved, although there is still no feeling on his left side. He is still his optimistic funny self and works hard in therapy. He still has many things on the “to do ” list that he plans to accomplish. The main thing is to “recover and help people.”
These past two weeks Evan has been visited and encouraged by old and new friends. Some have driven hours to see him. Some brought food. Some came to cover him in prayer. It has meant a lot to him to feel so loved.
Please continue to pray for healing and recovery as he prepares to begin chemotherapy.”
