Grace Klein Community’s monthly food delivery ministry is a great way to get involved in the community of Birmingham, Alabama. Volunteers go out the first and third Saturdays of every month, all over Birmingham, to deliver food boxes to over 200 families in need of food. But, it’s about so much more than food… we seek to build relationships with people and walk through hard times with them. We wholeheartedly believe that meaningful, long-term relationships are a key factor in alleviating poverty.
On August 2, 2015, The Birmingham United Soccer Team will be hosting a food drive in support of our monthly food delivery ministry. Flyers have been distributed in various neighborhoods, and the BUSA soccer players plan to collect the donated items and deliver them to the Grace Klein Community office.
Here’s a sample of what the soccer players are collecting:
- Canned vegetables, meats (tuna, chicken, salmon) & fruits
- Canned and boxed meals (i.e., soup, chili, stew, macaroni & cheese)
- Canned or dried beans and peas (i.e., black, pinto, lentils)
- Pasta, rice, low sugar cereals
- Peanut butter
- Baby formula & baby foods (check expiration dates)
- Paper Products – Paper Towels, Toilet Paper, napkins
