Grace Klein LOVES our donors! We love and appreciate them so much, we have decided to show them in living color, by surprising them in their place of business, with a GKC flash mob!!
This month we chose Trader Joe’s, without whom we would not be able to have our Sunday Trade Markets or offer such a large variety and selection of unique foods to our growing community. We love the fun culture in the Trader Joe’s stores and wanted to express our appreciation in a manner that would completely embrace their atmosphere.
We had a recent serve team make loads of cardboard “Thank You” signs, embellished with pieces of actual TJ’s shopping bags, our staff all donned traditional Hawaiian shirts just like the staff wear at Trader Joe’s (generously loaned by community members Bill and Susan Slappey), and we busted up into the store singing a cadence that sounded a little something like this…
“I don’t know what I’ve been told, Trader Joe’s shares food not sold; They help us serve Birmingham, That’s why Trader Joe’s is fam!!!”
Who knows where you might find us next as we have so many organizations we wish to appreciate!! As an old African proverb says, “If you want to go far, go together. If you want to go fast, go alone.”
Fun little fact from our visit to Trader Joe’s… one couple we met followed Tracie back to our office for a tour of what we do and plans to become active volunteers. In their words, “our meeting you guys is providential.” They were up in Birmingham, AL, from Jemison, AL, and just so happened to be at Trader Joe’s when we came by for our surprise visit.
And one funny little fact… when we walked in one of the employees ran to their manager and said, “we have protestors and they are singing.” The manager laughed and said, “oh, that’s just GKC.”
“Then our mouths were filled with laughter; our tongues sang for joy. Then it was said among the nations, “The Lord had done great things for them.” – Psalm 126:2
