One of our own, Nicole Mays, Community Liaison with Grace Klein Community, had her cousin NaJayh Mays, age 19, shot in Bessemer, AL.
Bessemer, AL, is where we bring hope every single day at our FeedBHM Bessemer location where we share space with Morgan UMC. No one gets shot on our property and people come from all around the world to serve our communities with food support. We would actually sleep in the parking lot and feel safe.
But, the City of Bessemer does struggle with gun violence, actually one of the highest cities per capita for gun violence in the entire country.
We know God handpicked us to be located in Bessemer, AL, to bring hope, joy and peace to people who face pain, heartache and despair.
But for the grace of God, any of us could face gun violence and we always want to offer spaces where people can find encouragement, tangible support and prayer in the midst of the deep struggles life throws.
NaJayh was tragically shot, in Bessemer, AL, with a bullet piercing her arm and lungs. She has faced unthinkable pain and challenges—but by the grace of God, she’s still here, fighting every day.
Our team has been praying for her and believing for her complete healing.
Her strength is inspiring, and now she needs our support on this healing journey. Every donation, share, and prayer make a difference.
She never dreamed of being shot. Who does?! And she is facing medical bills and unforeseen expenses which are overwhelming.
Here’s where community comes in!
As a neighbor and friend of Grace Klein Community, you can give to ease the burden for NaJayh.
All funds donated will be used to pay her expenses directly. We do not give the funds to her, but we steward on her behalf as a way to protect her and the donors by paying third party vendors directly.
We also welcome notes and scripture cards for her which we will pass along to encourage her heart as she continues to fight for her life.
We believe in miracles, and we are believing NaJayh will survive, and God will use her life as an inspiration to many.
Sometimes tackling gun violence is doing the next right thing, by sharing a box of food with our neighbors, delivering a bouquet of flowers to a service worker or stopping to pray for someone who needs to remember they are seen and valued.
Love can overcome hate if we link arms and choose to do our part. God changes our hearts. May He start with all of us and teach us how to love each other.
The shooter has a name, a family, a grandmama, friends. Let’s pray for the shooters too. May God meet them and transform their hearts as we choose love and forgiveness.
“Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins.”
