Kwathu Home
At the Kwathu home, the children had a good month despite facing some challenges with the flu and cold. We took a few kids to the clinic, where they received the necessary medication. The children enjoyed a month filled with school activities and had plenty of rest time after school.
Lwiindi Traditional Ceremony
In July, we had the wonderful opportunity to take the children to Mukuni village to witness the traditional Lwiindi ceremony, also known as Bene Mukuni, in Zambia.
The Lwiindi ceremony is a vibrant celebration that holds deep meaning for the Leya people. This traditional event is centered around giving thanks, paying homage to ancestral spirits, and seeking blessings for rain and a bountiful harvest. Held annually at Mukuni Village, close to Livingstone, Zambia, the Lwiindi ceremony is a cherished cultural gathering that draws in visitors from all corners of Zambia and even beyond its borders. It’s a truly enriching experience filled with tradition and community spirit.

Anti-Drug Club
In July, we started an anti-drug club to educate children and the community about the dangers of drug abuse. We partnered with the Drug Enforcement Commission of Zambia, which led the lessons for the kids with us. It was a great collaboration, and we’re excited to continue spreading awareness about this important issue.

Kwathu School
Kwathu School bustled with activity as students geared up for their end-of-term exams. Despite their busy schedules, they still found time to partake in the vibrant Cultural Day celebrations.
Zambia, with its rich cultural heritage, boasts a tapestry woven from over 70 ethnic groups, each contributing unique customs, languages, foods, and art forms. Annual ceremonies, lively music, dynamic dance performances, and exquisite crafts like detailed beadwork and expert wood carving bring these diverse traditions to life, showcasing the beauty and diversity of Zambia’s cultural landscape.

Touring Project
The Touring Project, which involves empowering women through sewing training, promoting economic independence, and community development, is progressing well.
This program, known as the Kwathu Tailoring Project, focuses on providing women with skills for businesses, income generation, and livelihood enhancement. The support offered includes skills training and business development to ensure the sustainability of their ventures.
This year, the project recruited five women who have shown significant progress. Their dedication and hard work are shining examples of the positive impact that the project is making in the community. It’s truly inspiring to see how these women are taking steps towards a more empowered and independent future.

Cleaning Campaign
Kwathu initiated a clean-up campaign in collaboration with community members. Together, we worked towards gathering various waste materials, including papers, plastics, bottles, and metals. The primary objective of this campaign is to ensure the cleanliness of both the Kwathu home and the entire community.

Community Outreach
Our community outreach in Livingstone, specifically in Senkobo village, has been progressing smoothly and successfully. The primary goal of this outreach initiative is to address a variety of issues that impact women, men, and children within the community. We aim to create a positive and supportive environment where important topics can be discussed and addressed openly.

Farming Project
In July, we had a successful harvest including corn (maize), watermelons, and butternuts.
The field has been cleared up to prepare for planting new crops like cabbage, tomatoes, onions, and various other vegetables. Our chickens are now in their final week before being ready for sale. Additionally, our goats are thriving and slowly multiplying in numbers. It’s been such a rewarding and fruitful month!
