“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Peter 4:10-11
“This is what I saw. Students using their gifts, skills, and passions to serve a community that strives to do the same. What a blessing, and how thankful we are to serve one another while serving together.
On March 15, 2016, forty eight students from Briarwood Christian School served together with Grace Klein Community. With a ton of work to do, we broke the group down into different sections. Fifteen students worked with DJ, Melia, and Jessica in the garden and chicken coop, thirteen worked with Scott, Barrett, and Giorgio outside, ten organized the office and Give and Take Room with me, and ten helped Shannon, Alison, and Rebekah at Liberty Church making freezer meals, scripture cards, and laundry detergent.
The students arrived around 8:00 A.M. and took a break around 11:30 A.M. to eat pizza, congregate, and listen to an awesome devotion from our friend, Evan Moon. When returning to work, the students immediately jumped back to it. Parents and teachers encouraged the students to keep pushing through the heat and sweat. Whether it was feeding chickens, organizing clothes, or making freezer meals, every student worked with such a servant’s heart.
One student in particular was looking for a task. He wasn’t too big, but I could tell that he wanted to help. I called him over and said, “I want to put you over a project.” His eyes lit up and he answered with a “yes ma’am!” I led him over to a pile of scrap in the yard. “Now I need you to get a group of guys to help you throw all this scrap in the trailer and fold this blue tarp.” Immediately, he began to yell and point to some guys nearby. “I need you three to come with me! Spread this tarp out and each of you grab a corner.” I sat and watched a minute as he took charge and got the task done. Isn’t that how God sees us? He picks us out of a crowd. We have no idea what God has in store for our lives, but He chooses each one of us to do a specific job that HE KNOWS that we can accomplish through Him.
Thank you Briarwood Christian School. Thank you for showing us how God empowers young and old to serve His Kingdom. Thank you for serving together with Grace Klein Community.”
