Imagine receiving such a letter, advising you to secure other insurance coverage, as your current policy will no longer be offered in 2017. Many of you may have even received such a letter from your insurance carrier and feel the stress. What now?? Imagine that you are battling brain cancer and you received that letter!!
The most urgent, pressing and immediate need for Evan Moon is health insurance. How does he secure coverage with a very serious pre-existing condition? Everyone will have their opinions about how the Moon’s should fight this concern and some of you may have amazing ideas that you should email us so that we can pass them along to the Moon family.
But for this moment, put yourself in their shoes. They are already in the biggest fight of their lives. BRAIN CANCER. And with brain cancer has come its own set of battles – a left side that is not wanting to move, relearning how to talk, therapy to write again, independence of a shower, a pile of extra financial expenses, a grown son living back at home, the complexity of medication disbursement, discipline for all the different therapy regiments, etc. The thought of more battles is not really what they were looking for. Who wants to now frantically secure insurance coverage in the next 30 or so days with a very serious diagnosis??
Friends, the burden is heavy, the weight of the unknown difficult, the anxiety is high and worry will not stay away. Please, if you do not do anything else, stop and pray for the Moons and for God’s provision and protection over this situation. Pray peace and hope and endurance. Pray miracles over them.
Pray these scriptures over their hearts and minds:
Psalm 119:147 “I rise before dawn and cry for help; I hope in Your words.”
Isaiah 43:1-3 “Fear not for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through the fire you shall not be burned, and flames shall not consume you. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior.”
Psalm 31:1 “I will bless the Lord at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth.”
2 Samuel 22:29 “For you are my lamp, O LORD, and my God lightens my darkness.”
Proverbs 5:18 “But the path of the righteous is like the light of dawn, which shines brighter and brighter until full day.”
James 1:5 “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”
After which, consider giving towards Evan Moon’s financial needs. Due to generous donors, Grace Klein Community has paid over $12,000 directly to bills for Evan and his family. We only have $75 left so we desperately need more giving to come in to care for them. Giving is a way we can fight the battles with them. Giving provides fuel for their car to go to and from treatment, for insurance premiums, for medical bills related to their deductible and co-pays, for the modifications the house required to accommodate Evan’s needs, for equipment required for therapy, on and on. We can help our brother by caring for tangible needs.
If you feel God leading you to help support the Moon family with the unexpected expenses, here’s how you give:

Memo: Evan Moon Assistance Program
Please spread the word and help us love on the Moon family. Send more moonbeams to [email protected] of memories with Evan and encouragement that we can share in future posts as surprises for him and his family. The brain surgery happened in May 2016, but this fight is far from done. Stay the course with us and help us remind the Moons that they are NOT alone.
From the Moon family:
Evan’s MRI result is “stable with no indication of progression!” This is great news and the doctors were very pleased. Thank you to everyone for the prayers. The last round of chemo was full dose and he did well with it. As long as his blood results are good, he will begin the next chemo round on Sunday evening, November 20, 2016.
Evan fell and it resulted in a badly sprained left ankle. He has been in a wheelchair for three weeks. The podiatrist has released him to begin walking again and ordered new exercises. Evan is allowed to walk a little more each day to get back to where he was before the fall. He is so happy to be back on his feet!
Evan and his family have been so blessed and encouraged with prayers, text, emails, meals, food and visits. Once again they have been blessed with a wonderful food donation from Grace Klein Community. It is a tremendous help. The frozen meals are especially helpful for our family during this time.
Despite his setbacks, Evan was able to attend a wedding in Alabama, a movie with “the guys” in Decatur, a dinner with his good friends from Azul Motorsports, and a big birthday bash with friends. His dad took him to each event and they both enjoyed being with friends. It does make Evan tired but the encouragement and laughs are well worth it.
Evan’s care is truly a family affair with even 5 year old Brylon keeping track of medicine time, helping Evan in the wheelchair and doing puzzles together.
Evan’s speech has improved tremendously and he is working hard to relearn spelling and to regain movement and feeling in his left arm and hand. The challenges and set backs leave him tired but he refuses to be discouraged. He says ” I have hope and happiness.”
