 Job Description:

The Grant Writer is responsible for developing and writing grant proposals to secure funding from government agencies, foundations, corporations, and other grant-making organizations. The Grant Writer will collaborate with Executive Staff to gather information necessary for proposals and will manage the overall grant application process to ensure timely submission of high-quality proposals. The Grant Writer will also be responsible for maintaining a calendar of submissions and tracking progress on submitted proposals, in addition to submitting required reporting from approval applications.

 Responsibilities:

  1. Research potential funding opportunities from government agencies, foundations, and other grant-making organizations.
  2. Develop and write grant proposals, letters of inquiry, and grant reports in collaboration with Executive Leadership.
  3. Gather necessary information from Executive Leadership, including budgets, outcomes, and program descriptions, to include in grant proposals.
  4. Ensure that all grant proposals and reports are submitted on time and meet the requirements of the funding organization.
  5. Maintain a calendar of grant deadlines and track progress on submitted proposals and required reporting.
  6. Build and maintain relationships with funders and program officers.
  7. Assist with other fundraising activities as needed, including donor cultivation and stewardship.
  8. Stay informed about trends in philanthropy and grant-making, particularly as they relate to the organization’s mission and programs.
  9. Maintain accurate records of all grant submissions, awards, and reports.
  10. Collaborate with the finance department to ensure that grant budgets are accurate and aligned with organizational goals.
  11. Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other organizational activities as required.

Qualifications:

  1. At least 3-5 years of experience in grant writing for nonprofit organizations.
  2. Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
  3. Strong research skills, including the ability to identify funding opportunities and gather information from multiple sources.
  4. Knowledge of grant-writing best practices and familiarity with common grant application formats.
  5. Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines simultaneously.
  6. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with program staff, executive leadership, funders, and other stakeholders.
  7. Experience with nonprofit fundraising databases and software.
  8. Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
  9. Flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
