Do you have a fun, vivacious, high energy, creative redhead in your life? If your answer is no, maybe you haven’t met a huge asset of Grace Klein Community, the lovely Rebekah Crossman.
Before Grace Klein Community became an official non-profit, Rebekah Crossman was one of the volunteers that initially believed a community of friends loving friends really could make a difference. Her belief in early church ideals, of your plenty meeting my need so that in turn my plenty would meet your need, propelled her to become an active member of Grace Klein Community.
Rebekah is a very flexible volunteer and has helped in a variety of ways over the last eight years. If you find yourself having time to serve, but unsure where you want to serve, follow Rebekah’s lead and jump in.
She has sorted donations in the Give and Take Room which includes folding clothing, sorting, sweeping, and lots of organization. She has clipped coupons, helped locate the best deals at the local groceries, and filled the buggies with the best food at the lowest price. She found the laundry detergent recipe we currently use and has made gallons of laundry detergent concentrate for service days, as well as many jugs of detergent that have been given to families all over Birmingham. She has cooked frozen meals that have been shared in emergency situations. She has hosted multiple yard sales in her driveway for fundraising efforts. She consistently gives items, her family no longer needs, to the Give and Take Room. She has marked out the pricing on donated bread and helped sort food donations when they arrive all mixed together. She has washed dishes, weeded the garden and harvested veggies. She has helped organize the food delivery paperwork for delivery Saturday. Rebekah’s family has also transported food to our Saturday pickup location the Friday before delivery, added fruit, veggies, meat and bread to the food boxes on the morning of delivery, and personally delivered food boxes to families in need. She has also helped with behind the scenes preparation for community gatherings, donated items for silent auctions and hosted multiple ladies gatherings in her personal home.
Before becoming a mom, Rebekah was an interior designer and she shared her expertise to select paint colors for the Grace Klein Community house. Who says we aren’t better together?!
Rebekah Crossman has a very well-rounded perspective of Grace Klein Community as she has learned and served in many diverse areas. Her openness to help wherever needed has afforded her many fun, creative and exciting opportunities to use her diverse skills and abilities.
Most recently, Rebekah shares their garage freezer for donated food overflow, promotes community events on social media, donates items to the Give and Take Room, delivers unexpected produce donations to families in need, and will host a fundraiser yard sale in her driveway for the local ministry efforts of Grace Klein Community. She is also checking dates, in hopes of scheduling another ladies gathering in her home.
Maybe you feel like life’s too busy to serve? Rebekah is a busy wife and homemaker, mom of two boys, a Rodan and Fields consultant, a custom quilts business owner, and a homemade bread business owner. Her plate is full, working with all she’s got, but she is always eager to serve and share where she can.
We can be encouraged in our own crazy, and take the plunge to contribute in small ways to the good of the community. If we all share in different little ways, through giving what we have to give …. whether it is time, money, stuff, listening ears, creativity, we can all contribute where we can. Grace Klein Community is most effective when God uses all of us, not some of us.
