Did you know he often heads to work before 7am and arrives home in time for dinner? He and his family host a weekly community gathering in their home on Wednesdays. He goes to iRefer meetings every Tuesday and a prayer and worship gathering every Monday night. He is also committed to his local church where he worships regularly. Scott Elliott loves seeing everyone come out for the GKC family fun nights and gives us great leadership at our monthly food delivery. He helps rescue food weekly, provides leadership for the organization, and works hard with the behind-the-scenes planning and implementation no one sees.
Did you know that the very first week that Scott worked for Grace Klein Community he screwed the bit of a drill through his thumb? He loves all types of “thingamabobs,” from tools, to flashlights, to electronics, and is our modern day “Inspector Gadget.”
Did you know he’s got a soft heart, willing to love anyone and everyone. He will open his home for the weekend or for the week for visiting missionaries like Godfrey and Elizabeth Mosebase of LXP Lesotho or our friend Steven from Pearls of Slum. He will open his home more long-term and even adopt strangers as if they were his own daughters. He will share his house, the increased utilities and food, without a worry of tomorrow.
Did you know he loves to ride a bike? He and his family ride on Sunday afternoons for Slow Your Roll and sometimes in the Redemptive Cycles Thursday Trample.
Did you know he feeds and waters chickens every week? He hauls compost to the bins and feeds wilted lettuce, watermelon and tomatoes to the chickens. Did you know one time a chicken got away from him and he and a bunch of other friends caught it with a big net in the back yard of the office? Did you know he’s a protector and had to trap some raccoons when they were threatening to kill our chickens?
Did you know he knows how to repair jammed up printers, set up emails, back up data, negotiate contracts, print checks, ship packages, manage bulk mailings, and stuff envelopes? He understands everything about a cellphone, an iPad and a computer. He pays emergency assistance bills online and emails new contacts seeking to secure more partnerships for GKC.
Did you know he is pretty much an “expert” on all things astronomy? Well, that’s what we amateurs think, though he would say astronomy exploration is a fun hobby. He has amazing telescopes and can find the planets, the stars and the constellations. He even set up all his gear to share his passion and expertise at one of our annual camping weeks. Whatever the topic, Scott loves to learn.
Did you know he loves meetings? He often has a minimum of three meetings a day. He meets to encourage, to build relationships, to ask for support, to solve problems, to set up canned food drives, to raise awareness about Grace Klein Community. No one knows who all he meets or how many people he knows. He loves to meet people and if your business or small group or church would be interested in hearing about Grace Klein Community, Scott would love for an invite to come share.
Did you know he takes a first aid kit everywhere he goes? He has put a splint on a broken arm, dispensed pain medication, distributed bandaids and cleaned multiple wounds. He is safety first.
Did you know he takes TaeKwonDo? He can take us down with a round house or a side kick. He has taken the armor of God literally and he can take down some folks if anyone physically threatens any of our community members. He’s as gentle as they come, so many people never know the skills he has in his back pocket.
Did you know he loves photography and he’s actually good at it? Check out the album from the last Belize trip or India trip. He took them! Every once in awhile, he is second shooter for one of the top twenty Birmingham photographers.
Did you know when the work gets physical, maybe moving food boxes or furniture, he’s going to get serious and put on his bandana? He also keeps a spare set of clothing in his truck at all times in case he sweats profusely or gets covered in cucumber juice.
Did you know Scott loves to cook? He has a secret chili recipe and can make amazing Indian food. In case of a food emergency, give him a case of cliff bars.
Did you know that he derives all his wisdom by running his fingers through the luscious locks of his beard? And sometimes we catch him putting himself to sleep with the same skills.
Did you know he loves a schedule, but God is stretching him to be more flexible? Scott is letting go of his innate desire to accomplish tasks for the sake of building relationships.
Did you know he walked away from a six-figure job from a large corporation to come raise support as a missionary with Grace Klein Community? He walked away from his hunting membership. He sold his cars, his Polaris, and is willing to sell his house. He gave up restaurants multiple times a week and weekend shopping sprees with the family. He has tangibly laid down his life to serve Birmingham.
Did you know this guy is our Director of Ministry and Business Development for Grace Klein Community? Scott does not serve to receive the praise of man. Scott Elliott serves with Grace Klein Community out of love and obedience to the Lord. Count the ways we are better for having Scott Elliott, aka Scooter, as our chief servant leader.
“Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness! Come into his presence with singing!Know that the Lord, he is God! It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name! For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.” – Psalm 100
