“Wednesday, May 25th, was a hard day of weening off some of the non-seizure medicines. Evan prefers that his mom, Denise, stay by his side and that she holds his hand as much as possible. Several tests came back and all the numbers looked good. Evan tried to get out of the bed today, but Denise was able to stop him. He may be getting a little stir crazy after spending most of the time in bed for the last ten days. Please pray for his continued contentment and joy. Also, Evan needs to be able to stay awake for longer periods of time to progress, but one of the side effects of the anti-seizure medicine is drowsiness. Pray for him to be able to stay awake when the doctors/nurses need him awake.
The doctors are keeping Evan in ICU to confirm the seizures remain under control before returning Evan to the rehab unit. So far, so good. He should be moved to rehab by Monday. As the doctors have reminded us, recovery from brain surgery is a marathon, not a sprint. Pray Evan would receive great peace and resolve from Jesus, as he trusts in the next steps of recovery, and that he will not get easily frustrated or discouraged. Also, please pray for us that we will have an extra measure of strength and energy to stay by Evan’s side in the hospital. The Emory ICU setup requires that we sleep in recliner type couches outside his room and we need to get all the sleep we can when Evan is sleeping.
Our spirits are strong, but our flesh is weak. So much has happened in the last two weeks, yet we have had more strength and peace from God than we could have hoped for or imagined! We have seen His hand the whole way. He is a good Father and He hears all of our prayers for Evan and our family. We feel God’s love and we feel your love. We trust Jesus for Evan’s healing and we give God all the glory.
We would like to end with this scripture that celebrates the hope we have… “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” – Romans 5:1-5″

Two Thursday’s ago, Evan texted a rambled message to a co-worker. She thought he was joking. But her spirit became really uneasy and then another co-worker texted while in a meeting, “why is Terry Moon (Evan’s dad) calling me?” Immediately the co-worker knew, wait, something is wrong with Evan. She called him and he was very disoriented and speaking incoherently. He eventually made it to the emergency room where a CAT scan discovered a tumor on his brain. Now, here we all are, two weeks later, and the reality is… Evan Moon really did have emergency brain surgery last Monday. Evan Moon is in ICU at Emory Hospital. Evan Moon doesn’t have time to text and snapchat all of us. Evan Moon is not accepting visitors as he needs that energy for recovery.
So, today, let’s enjoy reading some of the “Moonbeams” that have been submitted by Evan’s friends.
A message from Destin Sandlin – Smarter Every Day
“Dear Evan;
Until last night I had been focusing my prayer on you and your recovery. God spoke to me and said, “Pray for his parents.” So yesterday evening I blanketed your parents and immediate family members in prayer. My heart aches for all of you and I cry out, “Why?!” But I am reminded that Jesus did not live a life without suffering. He suffered greatly for our redemption. I pray this season of deep suffering will not be long and I praise God for the amazing testimonies that will and are being shared.
Miss you friend! Praying, Maria Luttrell”
“Oh, Lord, hear our prayer.
We pray for the full and complete healing of our friend Evan.
Oh, Lord, hear our prayer.
We pray for Your Peace for his mom and dad knowing that You are in control and Your Will be done.
Oh, Lord, hear our prayer.
We pray for the doctors, nurses and staff in the hospital that Your hands will guide their hands, Your Will guides their actions, and Your Spirit is felt in Evan’s room.
Oh, Lord, hear our prayer.
We pray for Evan’s friends that they will rest easy with the knowledge that he is in Your hands.
Oh, Lord, hear our prayer.
Oh, Holy Spirit, comfort the souls of Your faithful!”

“I have known Evan for almost forever…since days long before social media and digital cameras, so pretty much all the pictures I have of our youth group adventures are probably in a box elsewhere. Our days at Lucerne were full of fun stuff but also times to grow and serve the LORD together. He is an amazing young man with a wonderful and godly spirit that draws people to himself and toward the LORD. After high school, we haven’t seen much of each other mainly because I spent so much time on the other side of the world, but I always knew Evan was one of those praying for me. Brother, I am praying for you and bringing you before the throne. I know the LORD has mighty plans for you. I pray for your strength, hope, peace, and JOY even through rehab. I leave you with two verses GOD blessed me with and continues to bless me with during my struggle with my PLS diagnoses.”
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.” – Isaiah 26:3-4
“The LORD your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; he will rejoice over you with gladness; he will quiet you by his love; he will exalt over you with joyful singing.” – Zephaniah 3:17

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for a welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.” – Jeremiah 29:11-13
“In the verses around Jeremiah 29:11, God was reminding his people, who had been exiled from their land, that He had not forgotten them or left them. There was a purpose in their pain. He would restore His relationship with them and it would be stronger than before. Pain and suffering and hardships are not just for the sake of being difficult. God always uses those moments. You are bringing hope and joy to so many who are around you. And you all are growing deeper in your faith with Jesus. All the pain and hard moments are worth it because of Jesus.
Evan, God has given you the gift of being really awesome at loving people. You bring joy and truth wherever you go. And Jesus shines so brilliantly in you. I am thankful to know you, brother! Now is the time to receive love from those whom you have shown love. We will continue to praise God for all He has done in you and for you, and we will continue to pray for you.” – Alison Elliott
“I wanted to reach out to let you know what a special and inspirational person he has been to me – as it sounds like he has to so many.
Evan and I became acquainted via Instagram, and since our initial interaction, he has consistently reached out with funny, encouraging, and interesting comments and/or messages, and they always make me smile, think, and/or feel like a special friend. I have a feeling this is how he is with all of his friends.
Although I have never met Evan in person, I can see through his posts, his Instagram feed, and the things that he says to me and to others that he is truly a light to all of those around him.
I pray daily for his full recovery.” – Cory Gray
“Evan,
It’s been a minute since I’ve seen you (what a fun surprise seeing you at a random restaurant,) but I saw a post on facebook about the brain tumor and all that’s been going on. You have always loved fiercely, and that has been such an encouragement and a challenge to me.
Thanks for loving your world so well. Thinking about you, and sending lots of love, prayer and laughter your way.” – Allison Hood
Henri Nouwen is one of my favorite quotes: “For Jesus, there is no countries to be conquered, no ideologies to be imposed, no people to be dominated. There are only children, women and men to be loved.”
