HOME UPDATE
BIRTHDAYS – This month our smallest girl Ruth Maliki celebrated her birthday for the first time at the home. She really had a great time though she was not well. Unfortunately, she had the flu. Her siblings really tried to make it special for her. Lots of dancing, eating and cake as well as presents. Below are some highlights.
SCHOOL– School reopened and the kids were excited, but it has taken them a lot of time to adjust. Covid 19 measures is still practiced. Term two ended on September 24th and the school reopened on September 27th. Home schooling is going on for toddlers as they go to school in shifts due to Covid 19. Eustus started school at LIBES; he is doing a trade course under TEVETA for three months. He is studying Power Electrical.
EXTRA ACTIVITY- While school is going on, the kids still help with home chores and make sure they do it well. They have however struggled a bit with keeping up with the garden. We received a donation from someone who once interned at the facility with her husband we also received some milk and party treats, which were from UK sent to us by our friends in the Indian community. Their contribution was much needed, and we appreciate it. Preparations are ongoing as the facility turns 15 years old and will be celebrating its birthday, so the kids are pitching in to help.
In preparation of the World Tourism Day, the Livingstone Museum opened its door to the public to view the museum for free. Our toddlers went through.
HEALTH- The toddler’s allergies have continued; they went to the hospital where they were all put on treatment. The medicine helped and they seem to be getting better. A nutritionist come through to help us out with balancing the meals for them during the hospital visit.
Chrispin was identified by someone who knew him from childhood. It was a good progress for us. Below are pictures from the clinic.
VISITATIONS- September turned out to be a good month. Rhodia got a visit from her birth mother who came all the way from Duduwezi, Michael received visitation from his grandmother, elder sister and many cousins who even played football with him, and Theresa also received a call from her mother. As much as the parents and relatives of the children are encouraged to keep the bond with the children here at Kwathu , unfortunately, some just do not come.
CLINIC CONSTRUCTION- The following works have been completed: fitting of door frames and window frames and the
electrical works both for the container and the toilets have been done. This project is meant to benefit the children and the community around Kwathu Children’s Home to access the much-needed medical care.
KWATHU SCHOOL REPORT
The month of September which happens to be the second month of term two and partially term three in a normal school calendar, has been an exciting and busy one; especially to the 7th grade class and the teachers responsible. Kwathu Private School, prepares for their mock examinations. Our students at Kwathu School started to attempt the internal mock exams which was organized and prepared by the school. This began on September 20th and lasted until the 24th, and we were happy to note that all of the 7th graders attempted the internal mock exams.
Secondly beginning of term three on September 27th, 7th graders were welcomed into the new term with LISO examinations. This was so exciting to see the boys and girls attempting for the second time and week in a row. (LISO) stands for Livingstone
Independent Schools Organization. Also, what is most interesting is that one of our teachers, Mr. Kulman Hachoose, was selected to be part of the LISO examination team and was further given an opportunity to set two examination papers: Chitonga (Zambian language) and Social Studies.
To the 7th grade, it has been a month of marathon in order for them to prepare for the forth coming final exams in November this year. This helps them to study even more hard and read more books in readiness for their final exams.
CHALLENGES- The school has had less manpower in both sections (lower and upper section) and we are no longer with Mr. Musole Edward who happened to be our head teacher.
SUCCESSES- The school has been boosted with one member of staff, Mr Don Sianungu. All of the 7th graders sit for their final examination. Therefore, the school commends the administration for its continued support rendered towards the growth of the school and further commends all the departments of Kwathu for their support. It has not been easy but the slogan ‘one kwathu one family’ makes our work easy. May God bless Kwathu.
