IMG_0456Over the last 24 hours, Evan has texted and shared random thoughts, scripture and moments where he’s experienced Jesus. Find here a collaboration of everything running through that mind of his and why he’s so inspired to love.

He’s thinking about Jesus.

Isaiah 53:5 “But He was wounded for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His stripes we are healed.”

This verse has been on repeat from different sources. He’s holding fast to the one who died for all our junk so we could have peace, so we could all be healed. That’s the Jesus he follows. That’s the Jesus Evan wants us all to know.

Because of Jesus –

“We don’t win sometimes, we win all the time.”

As Evan has been thinking, he remembered that “God Himself did the first surgery. God Himself was the first anesthesiologist. God took a rib and made a woman. Surely this is easy for Him.” (See Genesis 2:21-23)

In Evan’s words, and his words are hilarious,

“This is the deal… I am a gentle lover. When I get the open door I speak, but I don’t force my way in.

Well u see, God is swinging these doors open and He is stepping through. He is using me.”

And then God gave him this verse…

“For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which none of your adversaries will be able to withstand or contradict.” – Luke 21:15

Don’t you see, the naysayers, the people who have never believed that Jesus really is the Lord and Savior of the world, will get it now. God is opening the doors. Evan doesn’t have to push Jesus. It will be obvious to the whole world that Jesus is real. Because what man facing the uncertainty of a brain tumor, could respond in the ways Evan has responded, without Jesus living up inside of Him.

image4Can you see now, where Evan’s hope comes from? He’s been waiting for you to see, that gentle lover, never forcing, just waiting and hoping something one day would help you understand the love of Jesus. All this time you may have thought it was Evan, but it’s his friend Jesus that you’ve been experiencing. No one has to debate, no theology. Evan’s love is Jesus love and it is real.

He kept struggling and praying asking God to give him the verses to share. He was stuck in the book of Job thinking about trouble and difficult and later last night, God reminded him of this one…

“But man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward.” – Job 5:7

Life is trouble, so Evan has no “why me’s.” Maybe the point is for all of us to ask, “why not me?”

Maybe you read the post from yesterday, maybe you didn’t. But, Evan spent the day abiding with Jesus, remembering that Jesus calls him friend and that apart from Jesus he can do nothing. He spent the day soaking John 15 as well as 1 John and his buddies, 2 John and 3 John.

Guess what those 1 John and buddies are about – LOVE.

He thought about 2 Samuel 24:24 when David says, “I won’t sacrifice to the Lord my God what cost me nothing.”

He spent time thinking about the Glory of God and how God would get glory out of his life laid bare, out of his head cut open. Costing comfort, costing sleep, costing the things he loves, whether food, driving, adventure, time with friends, or work. To the Glory of God, he will surrender to the cost, for one friend to meet Jesus, the One Lover he’s wanted us all along to know.

From Evan, “The big truth is this… I ain’t got to say nothing… The outpouring of folks and how they are all reacting…. Jesus is the one bringing the heat! He is sending in His waves.”

Evan is expectant. He’s expectant for Jesus to blow us all away.

IMG_0452From Sunday night, Evan said, “Tomorrow at 8am Claud and Sud are coming to pray. We are gonna usher in His presence. Folks who don’t want none best call out sick cause He is gonna flood the crap out this joint. Those docs are gonna smell His aroma, and it ain’t gonna be my stinky poots.”

Evan’s expectation proved true. “The nurse came in dropping Jesus truth. Scriptures and what for and talking about His kingdom and His authority. My nurse “Ambassador Janice Dudley” is speaking it over me with 3 John 2″

3 John 2 “Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul.”

The nurse anointed Evan with oil and said “go in there, lay there in peace and rest in knowing God has you in health.”

IMG_0457Evan rolled down the hall toward surgery, praying for other friends, texting encouraging words to the guy who is filling in for his job, laughing that his nurse was named Bernadette and playing the song to her off his phone.

Then, one last text, “Hey y’all. I am handing the phone to my folks, less than 30 min til operation. Last toilet trip. Pray for peace in my parents, brothers and sisters.” He went into surgery thinking about others, evidence of Jesus up in him.

Surgery started a little before 3pm, Atlanta time. An intermediate grade glioma (tumor) was removed. He is in recovery now. Pathology will take several days. After about two weeks they will look at what additional steps will need to be taken. He will be moved to ICU in 1-2 hours and will undergo a few scans tomorrow. Praise God that the tumor has been identified at the right time. Please continue prayers for full recovery and for no recurrence of the tumor.

If you can give towards relief for his financial expenses, here’s how:
