Over 50 youth group boys and men leaders, who were participating in the “Act Like Men” Brookhills Guys Retreat, came and served with us on the afternoon of August 25, 2018, at our new community house and at the Grace Klein Community office.
As the boys learn to “Act Like Men” we think of the incredible power of Jesus and His equipping these boys to live a life worthy of Christ as Colossians 1:9-14 explains: “For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to His glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of His holy people in the Kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.”
Thankfully, The Church at Brookhills is making the time to invest in their youth boys and to train them up in the ways of Jesus, instilling in them the very principles taught in Colossians such as endurance, joy, patience, gratitude and the general desire to live a life that pleases the Lord.
One leader shared, “The guys serving demonstrated the work ethic we were trying to teach them.”
The middle school boys served at the Grace Klein Community office where they cleaned the office inside and out, bringing the yard back to order from overgrown grass, washing donut bins, cleaning fridges and floors and even washing our big green box truck.
At the new community house, the high school boys cleaned out overgrown debris with machetes, broke apart pallets, primed walls, and jackhammered concrete for plumbing access for a downstairs bathroom. All of the guys learned about safety and hard work, wearing gloves and safety glasses, and learning to operate power tools and equipment.
As Grace Klein Community grows, we rely more and more on the volunteer teams that God sends our way. Without volunteers, the day to day operations and maintenance would lack. Thankfully, God has tripled the amount of serve days we have had already in 2018 from the ones we had participate in 2017 and allowed our community to grow to cover the gap.
