Light Your Candle for the “Moon”

Evan1“It’s time to love and time to accept love.” – Evan Moon

How are you doing getting your love on? Are you noticing the people you have never noticed before? Are you slowing down long enough to speak to a stranger, ask them how they are, and really listen?

Are you scared of how “the stranger” will react when you share some Jesus love? Or maybe you are worried of feeling silly or saying something awkward? Don’t be afraid, God is love and He is with you everywhere you go.

IMG_3013You can do it! You can love anyone and everyone. Maybe it’s your co-worker? Leave their favorite soda on their desk. Or maybe it’s the lady at the landfill? Take her a container of cookies. What about the kids that you really want to invest in? Surprise them with an outing to Chick-fil-a. Maybe it’s your cashier at Home Depot? Invite him to your place for dinner and show him how awesome the tile turned out that you purchased from his department. Have coupons in your Sunday paper (the paper that must have been purchased by the prior homeowner?) Give them to your neighbor who is pinching pennies. Notice that your friend’s lawn is a bit overgrown? Mow it one day after work.

All of these examples are ways that Evan has practically loved the people around him. So follow his example or make up your own love missions. Take pictures of how you share some unexpected love and email to [email protected] to be shared on future posts.

Today, we will share a love mission from one of Evan’s friends in Birmingham. She made a little homemade card that quotes Evan and then printed out the most recent update. She then went to her neighborhood golf clubhouse and gave it to one of the girls there. She gave the girl a hug, told her Evan’s story, and asked that she pass the love onto others and share his story too. Her share took two minutes of her time.

Evan2Two minutes. What cIMG_7983an we do to share love with some of our “two minute” increments from our 1,440 minute days? We have 720 chances to share love in every single day!

Go spread some love while Evan is recovering in the hospital. What better way to honor our friend!! The time is now. Don’t wait around. Do something simple or do something extravagant. The point is – while there’s breath in our lungs, let’s do something! Light Your Candle for the “moon.” Evan will let you catch a flame from his candle if you have trouble getting yours to flicker.

Update from Evan’s family:

The surgery went well. The recovery may be more prolonged than expected. Evan will remain in ICU for at least another 24 hours. Please respect the family’s wishes to not have any visitors at this time. Right now, soak Evan in prayer, soak his parents in prayer, and soak the medical professionals in prayer. Right now prayer is the greatest gift we can give to Evan.

“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” 1 John 5:14-15

If you can give towards relief for his financial expenses, here’s how:
