Scattering “Moon” Light

IMG_7968On Sunday the Korean hospital chaplain, named Mr. Mun (pronounced Moon) stopped by and read Matthew 7:7, 11 to Evan, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” Evan said, “We gave him snacks… blessing the one who came to bless.” Another OF COURSE HE DID.

The outpouring of love and support for Evan and his parents has been huge! People drove from all over to come visit on Sunday. Evan is so thankful for all of you.

From the Moons: “We are seeing more answers to our earnest prayers …Surgery is scheduled today to remove the tumor. Doctors are optimistic. Will have more information after the surgery. God is good..all the time.”

Jesus said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other.” – John 15:1-17

IMG_7964Evan has a relationship with Jesus and because of that intimacy, he calls Jesus friend and Jesus calls Evan friend. The love we experience from Evan is his obedience to Jesus. He is remaining in Christ’s love and living to love each of us as Jesus has loved him. His life bears fruit, fruit that lasts.

As we all face the uncertainty of what it means for Evan to have a tumor on his brain, let’s follow our brother’s example and abide in Christ. We can rest in the love of Jesus as we watch Evan rest. We can lay down our lives to love each other as we experience Jesus’ love pouring out on all of us through Evan. We can find our own friendship with Jesus so He calls us His friend. We can learn to remain in love. And we can lay down our lives for Evan as we follow how Jesus laid down His life for us.

As you wake up this morning, Evan is preparing for brain surgery sometime after noon today. The unknown can be scary. Where does our hope come from? Evan is remaining in Christ’s love. He has asked friends to cover his arms with scriptures to minister to the doctors. He is trusting Jesus because Jesus calls him friend.

Today, pray for Evan, the doctors and Evan’s parents. Pray for healing. Pray for peace. Pray for strength and endurance. The time is now. Evan says: “It’s always 8 0’clock.” So set your clocks for 8:00 with an “Evan” note: “It’s time to love and time to accept love.” 8 0’clock represents to Evan that time doesn’t matter. You don’t have to wait for a specific time to love. The time is now. The square clock is the one in Evan’s hospital room.

IMG_0453Today, notice what you haven’t stopped to notice before. Look for life, joy, love, hope, and Jesus in your Monday routine. Send pictures to [email protected] and we will share in a later post. Let’s fully love to follow the commands of Jesus and to honor our brother Evan. Ask God for eyes to see like Jesus sees, which is how Evan sees. Notice the forgotten people, the ones no one else notices, and share a smile and encouraging word. Today we can be the light Evan usually scatters. We can scatter love for him while he’s busy having surgery.

IMG_0310As God sees Evan, God sees you. He notices your fears, anxieties, loneliness and despair. And his Son, Jesus, is beckoning us to abide, to rest in Him, to trust Him, that His joy may be in us and that our joy may be complete. So today, go be an imitator of Jesus, be an Evan joy bomb to everyone you meet. Take pictures with strangers, you know Evan would! Plus, the stranger isn’t a stranger anymore once we meet them. Capture those moments and let’s blow Evan away with how we chose to love others above ourselves.

The time is now to love. Challenge your friends to spread love too and use #supportforshaggy so Evan can later see all the kindness you scattered! What better way to love Evan than imitating what he’s been teaching the last 32 years!! If you need ideas on how to love, think about how Evan has loved you.
